The Fowler State Bank, Fowler, Kansas is participating in the FDIC's Transaction Account Guarantee Program (TAG). Under that program, through December 31, 2010 with the option of extending the program an additional 12 months without further rulemaking (December 31, 2011) (by extension FIL-15-2010), all noninterest-bearing transaction accounts are fully guaranteed by the FDIC for the entire amount in the account. Coverage under the Transaction Account Guarantee Program is in addition to and separate from the coverage available under the FDIC's general deposit insurance rules. For purposes of this program, the term “noninterest-bearing transaction account” will continue to include only those NOW accounts with interest rates no higher than 0.25 percent effective July 1, 2010. Coverage for public deposits is also extended whether these deposits are pledged with additional securities or other qualifying pledged assets of the bank as long as the above noninterest-bearing conditions are met.
